As any parent knows, one of the hardest things to do is photograph your own child, Photographers have the same problem and many hire other photographers to save themselves the stress. I like a challenge so always photograph Kaitlin myself. Like all children she wants to do what she wants to do when she wants to do it and shooting at the beach in deerfield makes it even harder, so many distractions for a young girl..... Also, she thinks she always has the better pose.
So if you want portraits of your child and plan on doing them yourself here are a few tips:
1. Don't. Instead hire a professional to do them.
2. Do not try to cram too much into one session, you have about 45 minutes with young ones, make it count.
3. Make the effort to schedule at the best time of day a 1pm beach session just does not look as good as an hour before sunset.
4. Do not stand off to the side yelling at your child to say cheese, no one looks good saying cheese
5. If your child is getting cranky let them play for a few minutes...that's all they want
6. Trust the pro you hire or do not hire them
6. Did I mention hire a pro
